REPURPOSING IDEAS - Magazines

I love reading and I read all sorts of printed and digital materials. It is easy to organise my digital materials but the same cannot be said about my printed magazines.

Over time, I've accumulated stacks and boxes of magazines. I realised then that no matter how much I love my magazine possessions, I had to throw out some, if not all of those magazines to make room for other things in the house.

Just some of my past magazine collections

Before I chuck them out into the recycling bin, I cut out pictures or big colourful fonts out for my daughter. She happily accepts them and started to paste those cut-outs in her scrapbook.

I was glad that the magazines were useful for one last time before being thrown away.

Good repurposing idea huh?

MOMMY MUST-HAVES : Cargo Pants

Staying at home with very young kids is a very challenging job. The toughest so far for me. No pay, long hours, perpetual fatigue..the list is just endless.

Going out with the kids on my own is like going on an unknown adventure. There are food and drinks to be packed. Diapers. Blanket. Hats / beanies. Extra clothes in case of emergency spills.

And what about myself? What I wear depends heavily on what kind of outing it is going to be. The one thing that I love wearing the most now is my blue cargo pants.

That pants is extremely comfortable and those pockets are where I stash my must have items on me all the time such as keys, card, loose change and mobile phone.

Would love to have more of this type of pants in my wardrobe :)

Games, Games, Games!

I would say that I spend many hours per week playing games on my iPad. I play them in between chores and when my kids are napping or sleeping.

Sometimes my kids would watch me play those games and even 'help' at times.

There are many types of games around. Just browse through and I am sure you'll find a genre that suits you.

As for myself, I have always been a big fan of the time management games. In time management games, you perform a series of tasks as quickly as possible. By the end of the game, you will achieve points that will enable you to progress in the game, or trade the points for elements that you could use to advance yourself in the game.

Over the years, I've played with different titles of games and I have enjoyed them very much. Except for the occasional bugs or incompatibility issues (usually iPhone games aren't compatible on iPad, so you have to wait for the iPad version to be released), I have only praises for all the games that I've tried.

Here is a list of the games that I've enjoyed playing over the years:

PlayFirst Games

1. Wedding Dash Deluxe

2. Wedding Dash 4-ever

3. Wedding Dash 3: Ready, Aim, Love!

4. Diner Dash Deluxe

5. Diner Dash: Grilling Green

6. Cooking Dash

7. Hotel Dash Deluxe

8. Parking Dash

G5 Games

1. Supermarket Mania 2 HD

2. Supermarket Management 2 HD

3. Stand O' Food 3 HD

GameHouse Games

1. Delicious Emily's True Love

2. Delicious Emily's Wonder Wedding

3. Delicious Emily's Honeymoon Cruise

4. Delicious Emily's Childhood Memories

Flipline Studios

1. Papa's Freezeria HD

BigWig

1. Hot Dog Bush

Some of these games has very good story line which I love, apart from the fun and catchy tunes.

I love love love these types of games and I hope many more would come out in the future.

Wisdom Teeth

Have you ever wondered why at the age of when you think you have enough teeth, you still have tooth ache caused by your wisdom teeth?

It is called wisdom teeth because they appear much later than the other teeth, at an age where people are presumably ‘wiser’ than a child.

If it is causing you intense pain, an extraction is the way to go. As for myself, I’ve had the pain come and go over the years. Sometimes with a fever, or just a tolerable toothache. I still think that an extraction is not necessary (let’s hope it will stay that way foreverJ)

Wisdom teeth is one of a few vestigial organs in humans. A structure is considered vestigial if it is not performing the function it was desired to do compared to other creatures with the same part. Other vestigial organs in humans are the appendix, body hair and coccyx.

The appendix and coccyx could be surgically removed without any major problems. As for body hair, waxing should it I guess. Although I should say that the eyebrows keep the sweat out of our eyes but anywhere else it is quite useless because we now wear clothes to keep us warm.

A Guide to Choosing a Dentist

Keeping a good oral hygiene is very important. Apart from brushing your teeth regularly, flossing, using mouthwash etcetera, regular dental check-up is necessary as well.

A good practice is to see a dentist once every 6 months for a general check-up.

I remember being not happy with the idea of seeing a dentist when I was growing up. Back then, a trip to a dentist could cause a nightmare. I remember not having any pleasant experience with the dentists or the dental nurses.

Most of the time they couldn’t care less about how you feel about the treatment, or they were rude and unprofessional towards the patients.

Back then, I only went to see the dentist when it was absolutely necessary to see one, like for an extraction or a filling. But as years go by, I realised that I need to take care of my teeth and seeing a dentist is very important.

So I voluntarily went to see a dentist here in Melbourne for the first time in 2011. It wasn’t until 2013 when I was pregnant with my second child that I finally found a dentist that I felt happy to see.

Folks, I think it is imperative that you find a dentist that you are comfortable with and here I have my list of steps on how to choose a dentist.

1.       Google Search

Use Google to search for dental clinics. Look for any reviews (either reviews on Google Maps, or website such as WOMO). At this point, I will definitely feel happy and relieve if I know that the clinic has their own regularly maintained website. Bonus points if they have a Facebook page. Yippee!

2.       Opening Times

Check to see if they open when you are available. Some clinics only open during weekdays. I would definitely choose a clinic that opens on a Saturday because that is the only day I could attend dental appointments.

3.       Accommodating Dentists

Does the dentist treat nervous patients well?

I find it helpful by telling the dentist beforehand that I am anxious about dental appointments. A good dentist should be accommodating towards your feelings and the dentist should be able to explain to you about the treatment course before any work is done. This is the time when you ask questions or make your worries known.

4.       Price

Well, this is something we can’t control. How much they charge for their services is not something that we can haggle for.

But if you have private health insurance, it will certainly help to pay for any gap, or none to pay at all.

5.       Location

If you can find one closest to where you live, and you are happy with the treatment then good for you. Otherwise, it isn’t wrong to venture further to seek the one that you are comfortable with.

So with all these steps I hope you can find a dentist that suits your requirements. For further reading I suggest this article from wikiHow, How to Choose a Dentist.

Kuching and Gawai Dayak Celebration

Hi everyone. It is good to be back blogging after many uninspired years. So I thought for my first post I would talk about the place where I come from.

I come from Kuching, the capital and the most populous city in the state of Sarawak in Malaysia. The word 'kuching' means cat in Malay, but the city was actually named after a tidal stream called Sungai Kuching.

Kuching is home to more than 30 different ethnic groups and I am very proud to say that I could speak in 5 different local languages.

As a Bidayuh lass, I used to celebrate Gawai Dayak when I was back in my hometown. Gawai Dayak is celebrated on 1st and 2nd June every year as both a religious and social occasion. It is a thanksgiving day marking a bountiful harvest with friends and family members would gather.

As I've been away from Kuching for the last 4 years, I have not been able to celebrate Gawai in a traditional way. But in the spirit of celebration and new beginnings, I hope my first post on Gawai this year will usher many more opportunities for me to blog and share about my adventures (and misadventures) in life.

Tara,tara,tara,tara,tara,uuuuuuhhhaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! *glass clinking*
